JCKstyle - February 28, 2006

No matter who they are, however, each is at the ready with a prediction … At the airport baggage claim: "Philip Seymour Hoffman will definitely win Best Actor." Over dinner: "Brokeback Mountain is taking home Best Picture." In line at Starbucks: "Diamond earrings are going to be shorter this year."
OK, we made that last one up, but with all the jewelry insiders flocking to L.A. this week, it's not an unlikely scenario. Diamond Information Center's Sally Morrison and Platinum Guild International's Michael O'Connor (precisely the two people who you'd expect to hear having said conversation) are in town setting up suites to display jewelry this week. They shared their own predictions with JCKstyle.
Morrison:
- The right-hand ring, which has become a "lucky charm" for nominees
- Bracelets, especially one big cuff on each arm
- Layers, from multiple pendants to stacked bracelets
- Jewelry in the hair
- Vibrant, bold gemstones
- One large statement piece, especially oversize cocktail rings and dramatic ear silhouettes
- Men's jewelry
