JCKstyle - March 2, 2007

There was something comfy about this year's Oscars. A host who stayed true to her style and avoided mock-Broadway numbers, winners many had predicted, Gwyneth looking elegant, J.Lo looking Grecian. Jewelry trends, too, were not particularly controversial, but neither were they uninteresting. Some of the night's biggest looks:
Mix and match bracelets. Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, and Portia de Rossi all mixed diamond wrist wear with differing designs for a blingy, individualized look. Anne Hathaway exemplified the trend in unmatching diamond bracelets by Van Cleef & Arpels.
Bejeweled dresses. Whether as a strap (Beyoncé in Armani Privé), a neckline (Jennifer Lopez in Marchesa), or a finishing touch (Rachel Weisz in Vera Wang), jewels popped up on some of the carpet's most stunning dresses.
Wide drop earrings. Wider, ethnic drop earrings adorned such stars as Jodie Foster, Jessica Biel, and Jada Pinkett Smith, who wore a canary diamond and yellow gold version by H.Stern.
Gem cluster earrings. Those who didn't drop, clustered. Kate Winslet, Penélope Cruz, and Cate Blanchett donned gem cluster earrings that crawled up and away from the earlobe.
Green. While no color defined the red carpet this year (besides, well, you know), green was a popular choice for both dresses, like Isla Fisher's, Beyoncé's, and Kate Winslet's, and jewelry, like Cameron Diaz's emerald and diamond Cartier drops.
Weekly Gem
What did red-carpet pedestrians Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou, and Ryan Gosling have in common on Oscar night? All wore a tiny red teardrop pin designed by Alessandra Gallo, handcrafted by Ricardo Basta, and conceived by Global Witness and Amnesty International. The pins will be auctioned to fund Amnesty International’s rehabilitation of former child soldiers from conflict diamond zones.
