Jewels, Golden Globe Style

A more laid-back cousin of the Academy Awards, this week's Golden Globe Awards nonetheless gave a sneak peek of red-carpet trends for the coming season. They also showcased some of Hollywood's finest independent thinkers: from Hilary Swank, who sported an enormous bejeweled flower tucked just behind her ear like a flamenco dancer who hit the lottery, to ever the convention-bucker Angelina Jolie, who wasn't afraid to wear a full suite of jewels (see below) and pulled it off without looking too matchy-matchy.

To those who dismiss such trends with the "what someone in Hollywood wears doesn't matter to my customer" line, JCKstyle gently reminds them of the chandelier earring trend, the colored-stone trend, and the long, layered necklace trend—all of which trace their ancestry on Hollywood's red carpet.

The Golden Globes' top trends:

  • Necklaces, especially pendants (Helen Mirren) or choker-length line styles with small Y-drops (Renée Zellweger)
  • Earrings, either oversize in wide shapes (Jennifer Lopez) or simple diamond studs and buttons (Penélope Cruz)
  • Bracelets, either layers of various sizes and shapes (Sheryl Crow) or one statement (Beyoncé)
  • Pear- (Angelina Jolie) and heart-shape (Kate Winslet) diamonds
Weekly Gem
While some may say that Brad Pitt was her ultimate accessory at the Globes, Angelina's jewelry was nearly as gorgeous. The suite of unusual Indian-inspired uncut diamonds in 22k yellow gold by Bochic were an unexpected (but stunning) contrast to her gray St. John gown that also reflected—intentionally or not—her and Brad's embrace of cultures around the globe.
