Growth in online retail this holiday season has been primarily driven by significant spending increases in both high-ticket and popular gift categories, comScore Networks reports. The high-ticket category experiencing the highest gain over the prior year was Jewelry & Watches with a 66 percent increase. To read more click here.
2. HOLIDAY SPENDING FALLS SHORT OF EXPECTATIONS
Visa USA, the credit card company, said yesterday that it would lower its forecast for holiday spending, The New York Times reports. Based on purchases by credit and debit card holders, Visa said sales rose 6.5 percent in November and December, compared with the same period last year, down from its initial forecast of a 7.5 percent gain. 3. SEIKO CORP. OF AMERICA GETS NEW PRESIDENT
Masato Nakaoda, president of Seiko Corp. of America since June, is leaving SCA to return to Tokyo, Japan sometime in the next few weeks. There, he will begin a new assignment at Seiko Corp., the parent firm, contributing to the brand building of some of the company’s other product divisions, including clocks, opticals, and jewelry. 5. GIA MUSEUM RECEIVES TURKISH DIASPORE
The Gemological Institute of America received a 24.60 ct. step-diamond cut, color-change Turkish diaspore that is marketed as Zultanite. The gem was donated by Zultanite Gems LLC and will become part of the Institute’s permanent Museum collection. To read more click here.
