1. SURVEY: 'BLOOD DIAMOND' MOVIE HAS MINOR IMPACT ON CONSUMER BEHAVIOR
The Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council, a division of MVI Marketing Ltd., recently did a study to measure the impact of “Blood Diamond” on the jewelry industry. To read more click here.


2. WORLD JEWELRY CENTER ATTRACTS FOUR NEW FIRMS
Four more firms have signed letters of intent to occupy the planned World Jewelry Center in Las Vegas. The most recent additions are: I Do Diamonds, Giraux Fine Jewelry, International Gemological Institute, and Focus Business Management. To read more click here.


3. DPS, SPOT RUNNER OFFERING CUSTOM TV AD PROGRAMS FOR JEWELERS
The Diamond Promotion Service has teamed with Spot Runner Inc., an Internet-based ad agency in Los Angeles, to help diamond jewelry retailers and manufacturers create customized and cost-effective local television advertising campaigns. The commercials in the program, ready for use now, are designed to complement DPS’s national "A Diamond Is Forever" marketing initiatives. To read more click here.


4. MERYL STREEP RECEIVES $25,000 NECKLACE
Alfredo J. Molina, CEO of Black Starr & Frost, presented Meryl Streep with a Journey Diamond Necklace valued at $25,000 at the 15th Annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast. To read more click here.


5. HOLIDAY SEASON ONLINE SPENDING CONTINUES TO GROW AT RECORD BREAKING PACE
During the first 38 days of the holiday season, total online retail spending reached $15.6 billion, marking a 25 percent increase versus the corresponding days in 2005, according to comScore Networks. However, the busiest time is yet to come. To read more click here


6. RECORD SETTING DAY ONLINE
On Dec. 4, consumer online retail spending (non-travel) at U.S. Web sites reached a record-setting $647 million, according to comScore Networks, Reston, Virg. The figure represents a 26 percent increase over the corresponding day of the prior year. To read more click here.

8. ORCHID DINNER TO BE HELD DURING GEMFAIR
The 11th Annual Tucson Orchid Dinner will be Feb. 2, 2007, at The Savoy Opera House, in Tucson, Ariz. The dinner, being held in conjunction with GemFair Tucson, is a chance for members of the Orchid Forum cyber community to meet in person.
