Coin of Italy

As one would expect from the architect of his own successful fine jewelry brand, Roberto Coin has his opinions—especially on all things Italy—and has no qualms expressing them. These characteristics make understandable what would otherwise be an unusual publishing venture.

Italian Hideaways, which outlines the best of the best when it comes to the country's luxurious vacation spots, was written by Meg Nolan, but sponsored by Coin. Nolan, a New York–based editor who has written for Vanity Fair and Travel + Leisure, teamed up with photographer David Cicconi, one of Photo District News' 30 Emerging Photographers of 2006, for this 200-page coffee-table book, which had its Town & Country–produced launch party last week in New York.

Coin, who penned the foreword, was not on hand at the event but shared in the book his thoughts on his native country, and describes with a romantic flair jewelry fans know well his view of the pursuit of happiness:

"Happiness is often nothing more than a new perspective, with no borders, where everything, actually everything, may happen. It is this extraordinary capacity of dreaming about happiness that keeps us alive because living is to begin again, always, every second a new trip."

Weekly Gem
Celebrity watchers have an eye on Las Vegas, where jeweler Mouawad will introduce the fruits of its latest high-profile partnership. The brand, known for its jewelry venture with Heidi Klum, has apparently now signed on her husband, singer Seal, to create his own collection. For those who don't know him beyond being the man escorting the supermodel, he'll be making an invite-only performance during next week's trade shows.
