Zale Corp. posts 5% sales gain for FY2002

Zale Corp., North America’s largest specialty retailer of fine jewelry, had sales totaling $2.173 billion for the fiscal year ending July 31, a 5.1% increase over the for the prior fiscal year, it announced on Aug. 8. On a comparable store basis, sales increased 1.5% in constant currencies.

For the fourth quarter alone, total sales were $431.1 million, an increase of 3.4%. Comparable store sales for the fourth quarter rose 2%, compared to a decrease of 9.7% for the same period last year.

Zale will announce its fourth quarter and fiscal 2002 earnings results in detail on August 29.

The company is North America’s largest specialty retailer of fine jewelry operating 2,295 retail locations throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, and online.
