Well-Known Memphis Jeweler Dies

Lasley Savell, owner of Las Savell Jewelry in Memphis,
Tenn.
, died Aug. 7. He was 76.

Savell opened Las Savell Jewelry in 1980. He began searching
for a new location three years later and purchased property at its current
location, which has been open for 30 years.

After making connections with businesses in Antwerp and
Israel, Savell began to regularly attend jewelry shows worldwide. Las Savell
Jewelry was chosen as best jewelry store by the Memphis Flyer and The
Commercial Appeal
numerous times.

The store was also featured in 1997’s Rainmaker starring Matt Damon and Danny DeVito.

Savell was also a well-known performer and spent the last 30
years a director and church musician for five churches.

Prior to opening Las Savell Jewelry, he worked as a director
of communications and public relations for Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Savell was the founder and managing editor of The Methodist Hospital Journal of Medicine.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law,
nieces, and nephews.
