Gurhan. Sevan Biçakçi. Alp SagnakLika Behar. Our industry just wouldn’t be the same without the influence of these acclaimed Turkish jewelry designers. And now, after a well-received debut at JCK Tucson, Sinork Agdere seems on the brink of joining them with his latest collection for Lord Jewelry, the line he started in 2002 upon arriving in America to begin a new life.

After spending decades as a sought-after jeweler in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, Agdere relocated his atelier to downtown Los Angeles. His designs bear the hallmarks of traditional Turkish jewelry design—richly textured goldwork, highly detailed sculptural executions, Byzantine references, and intricate patterns rendered in gleaming enamel. But over the years he’s refined this aesthetic, blending old-world techniques with modern, wearable color combinations and delicate motifs borrowed from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods.

With the Heritage collection, Agdere reveals his mastery of an array of enameling techniques—a brand signature that’s also an essential component of his creative process. “Jewelry enameling is a lost art,” says the designer. “The beautiful fusion of fired glass on metal allows me to adorn my jewelry in rich, captivating colors.”

Though you could certainly interpret the new collection as an homage to Agdere’s Turkish heritage, it’s in fact a memoir chronicling his travels around the world, filtered through a kaleidoscope of enameling, diamonds, and gemstones. Inspired by Agdere’s exposure to, and passion for, different cultures, historical periods, architectural influences, and the natural world, the Heritage collection is also a testament to the meticulous workmanship that goes into each and every piece. Handmade by the designer himself, the pieces require hours and hours of labor, yet they still have a lightness to them, an effortlessly elegant quality that Agdere has spent more than 40 years perfecting.

This last point is best understood when you touch the jewelry and try it on, but the pics below do offer a sense of how the colors and textures dance in the light. Just magical.

The Heritage collection retails from $5,000 to $30,000.
