Tiffany awarded damages in counterfeiting suit

Tiffany & Co., New York, has been awarded damages of $573,818.64 from the owners of the Web site www.finest4less.com that sold counterfeit Tiffany & Co. merchandise, the fine jeweler and specialty retailer said in a statement. The order finding the defendants liable was issued by Hon. Victor Marrero on September 11 in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.

Tiffany has an active campaign to prevent counterfeiting and trademark infringement. “The Tiffany & Co. name is a symbol of the finest design and highest quality and the company is committed to maintaining its reputation and protecting its loyal customer base from such duplicity, the company said.

Tiffany & Co. merchandise is only available from Tiffany & Co. stores, boutiques, catalogs, and the company’s Web site www.tiffany.com. The company does not offer its goods for resale in the U.S., nor are there overruns or off-price outlets.
