William Shakespeare made a sparkling appearance in the September 1964 issue of JCK.
The Bard of Avon was quite the lover of jewels according to Dallas jeweler Marcus Baerwald. Baerwald celebrated the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth by featuring all the gems referenced by Shakespeare in a special display case.
“The pearl was Shakespeare’s favorite gem,” he told JCK. “He mentions pearls 32 times in his plays and five times in his poems.” According to Baerwald, the diamond “runs in second place with 21 mentions in plays and one in a poem.”
