Seven-Point Agenda Promotes First-Ever Bilateral Trade Between India and Pakistan

GJEPC delegation

India’s Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) signed a seven-point agenda during the Pakistan International Gems & Jewelry Exhibition in Karachi. The agenda will maintain a long-term partnership between India and Pakistan to support the $12 billion Pakistani gem and jewelry sector.

“The size of the Indian delegation led by the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India reflects the desire of both governments to enhance the bilateral trade and develop closer ties between the two neighboring countries,” said Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, prime minister of Pakistan and founder of the Pakistan International Gems & Jewelry Exhibition. “With the active support and guidance from the Ministry of Production, the company is committed to the development of the entire value chain of the gems and jewelry industry of Pakistan, from mine to market through skill development, technology up-gradation, marketing, branding, and exports.”

Highlights of the agenda include improved duty structure and exchange of students and faculty between the two countries, the direct import of gemstones from Pakistan, an Indian contingent to participate in Pakistani tradeshows, and jointly organized tradeshows and conferences in other countries.
