This summer it’s been hard to walk down the street without seeing pineapples—buttons on a little girl’s party dress here, a sequined graphic tee there, even a hipster’s aloha shirt, reimagined in black and white, at the coffee shop. To say nothing of the women’s ready-to-wear fashion iterations, now on offer at mid-summer sale prices.
Dolce & Gabbana (dress); Chloé (clutch); Tory Burch (espadrille)
Jewels that embrace the motif are also ripe for the picking right now, but won’t turn sour when the season’s over. Because a touch of tiki chic is always a sweet addition to one’s summer wardrobe (and perennially appropriate on Oahu, of course, but also in, say, Palm Beach or one of Southern California’s innumerable coastal hideaways).
The other thing about pineapples? The fruit is a time-honored symbol of hospitality, making any of my picks below a most sumptuous hostess gift (especially the Buccellati jam jar). If you’re staying with friends over Labor Day weekend, you’d certainly be guaranteed an invite back next year—and maybe for life.
