Oh, Baby: 11 Perfect Push Presents

No one knows when the term push present entered our lexicon, or who coined the term, but The New York Times addressed it as a rising trend in 2007, which is right around when I first heard it. I’m sure it was in the context of some now-ancient celebrity news, like when Tom Cruise gifted Katie Holmes with a Cartier LOVE bracelet upon the birth of their daughter Suri.

Ten years later and the “baby bauble” is still a thing. Much to my delight, having given birth to a baby girl in April. Needless to say, this momentous occasion prompted me to indulge in a little virtual shopping. I found 11 lovely ideas—is there something in your current inventory with similar push present potential?

Celebrate a new arrival with jewelry featuring baby’s birthstone. (Citrine, Onyx, Blue Topaz, Diamond, Peridot, Amethyst, and Garnet Pendants in 18k gold and sterling silver, $100 to $250 each; Philip Gavriel)

Great for Mom now, dainty enough for her little girl to wear later. (The July Mini necklace in 14k gold with a prong-set ruby, $325; Fox & Bond — Available in all birthstones)

The classic choice, engraved with baby’s first initial. A must-have for chic Moms since the early aughts. (Alphabet Charm in 14k yellow gold with diamond accent, $215; Helen Ficalora)

Or go modern gothic with his or her initial in 14k gold and enamel. (Medium Gothic Enamel Letter charm, $650; Jennifer Fisher)

Is this baby #2? Mark the occasion with a bracelet bearing both kids’ first initials. (Diamond Initial Cuff in 14k yellow gold, $1,585; Anne Sisteron)

Lockets may well be the original push present. Fill yours with a photo of baby, a lock of her hair, or some other memento. A vintage one packs even more sentimental value. (Circa 1900 12k gold fill locket with Victorian paste jewels on an antique gold-fill curb chain, $375; Luna & Stella)

Paging Amal Clooney and any other new moms to boy/girl twins… (14k yellow gold and diamond Venus and Male Symbol charms, $1,370; Sydney Evan)

Babies love to pull on dangle earrings, making a pair of really good studs an excellent, wear-everyday solution. (Stud earrings with garnet and tourmaline in 18k rose gold, $1,320; Jane Taylor)

This ring can be customized with baby’s birth date in diamonds plus your choice of letters and characters (eight on top, seven on the bottom). (Custom Cigar Band in 18k gold champleve enamel and diamonds, $3,995; Foundrae) [Also at top]

An impressive use of space: This bauble packs in all of baby’s stats while leaving room for a twinkling diamond. (Hand-stamped ID Tag with a 2.5 mm diamond in 14k yellow gold, $1,340; Heather B. Moore)

Sculptural, yet subtle: Designer Andrea Panico captures your little one’s profile in custom 3D-printed metal beads. (Profile Bead Necklace in 14k gold plate on a sterling silver chain, from $125; Pico Design)
