MJSA Technology Sourcebook 2008

.

Each year the November issue of the MJSA Journal provides “one stop” shopping for those curious about what is new in jewelry technology. This year, MJSA Journal has a wealth of new products and services just in time for those looking for ways to improve their business in uncertain times.

Technology serves us best when it provides new efficiencies in our day to day operations.  In the November issue, Kevin Lindsey provides a Bench Test for the new TIG ( Tungsten Inert Gas ) welder, Master Jeweler Plus from Orion

.
For those who have been looking at lasers and the more affordable tacking devices, this article sheds light on a entirely different method of joining metals that shows great promise for the bench jeweler whose needs go beyond the torch.

.

Also included in the November issue is my own Bench Test of the NextEngine Desktop 3D Scanner. MJSA asked me to provide a review of last year’s Innovation Award winner that would provide practical ways to use scanning devices for jewelry design. Using a blackberry from our local farmers market, I was able to create unique jewelry designs directly from nature. Like the adaptation of CAD by jewelers, I expect 3D scanning will be the next big evolution in jewelry design.

In addition to these Bench Test articles this month, there is a significant list of new technology products including Business Software, Tools and Equipment, Laser Engraving, Gem and Metal Analysis, Finishing, and of course CAD/CAM solutions.

If you are not currently a member of MJSA ( and you really should be ), the monthly MJSA Journal is  available to you on a subscription basis. You can also request a copy of the MJSA Technology Sourcebook by this Email Link if you would like to take this issue for a test drive…..
