Michelle Obama in Kimberly McDonald Jewelry at 2013 Inaugural Ball

What highlights a new hairdo better than diamond earrings?

On Jan. 21 at a little after 9 p.m. in Washington, D.C., Michelle Obama finally revealed the gown that fashionistas around the world had been breathlessly awaiting: a ruby-red Jason Wu velvet and chiffon design. And completing her 2013 Inaugural Ball look: Kimberly McDonald jewelry.

Not only were McDonald’s diamonds dangling from the FLOTUS’ ears and stacked up on her wrist, but they were also featured on her patriotic gown. Note the embellished diamond ring cinching the halter neckline.

By now you could certainly call Mrs. Obama a bona fide fan of McDonald’s designs. She’s worn her pieces on numerous occasions: the 2012 Democratic National Convention; at a 2012 U.K. state dinner; a 2011 Hollywood Joining Forces initiative; at a 2011 Operation Homefront ceremony… The list goes on.

Be sure to catch the February issue of JCK for an in-depth profile of the Los Angeles–based McDonald.
