Michael Hill International is to close eight of its stores
in the United States, according to news reports.

According to reports, the closings are part of an effort to reduce an expected $6 million operating loss in the U.S. 

Michael Hill acquired 17 stores in 2008 from Whitehall Jewelers,
which had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
