Maryland Jeweler Offering Refunds If Ravens Shut Out 49ers

Customers of Saxon’s Diamond Centers in Bel Air and Aberdeen, Md., are hoping the Baltimore Ravens shut out the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 3.

If the Ravens hold the 49ers scoreless, all Saxon’s customers who purchased jewelry from Jan. 26 through Feb. 2 will receive their money back (up to $5,000 each).

Saxon’s president Kevin Ferrell is working with an insurance company for the promotion. “We’ve never done a promotion like this before,” Ferrell says. “It’s been exciting because of all the Super Bowl buzz.”

Since there has yet to be shutout in the 46-year history of the Super Bowl—the closest was Super Bowl VI when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Miami Dolphins 24-3—we’re guessing Saxon’s shoppers will be bringing out all their good-luck charms on game day in support of their bank accounts…er…hometown team.

Ferrell isn’t the first jeweler to take advantage of a big football game with a refund-related promotion this season. Jeff Dennis, owner of Jeff Dennis Jewelers in Gardendale, Ala., offered a similar promotion to his customers before the Alabama-Auburn Iron Bowl game on Nov. 24, 2012. He ended up paying out more than $50,000 when the Crimson Tide beat the Tigers 49–0.

Regardless of the outcome, Baltimore fans—or those rooting for its defense to keep the 49ers out of the end zone—can watch the game in style with Saxon’s Ravens-themed jewelry.
