Live From Basel

Greetings from the Baselworld International Watch and Jewellery Show! It’s the first day of the show and traffic is light (which is great for me because it’s easy to talk to vendors). So far, I’ve seen much of the trends–squares, clusters–that JCKstyle predicted in its spring issue. But with 2,109 jewelry and watch companies present, I have a lot more to see before I make any solid predictions for future trends (and future issues of JCK).

A few products stood out today. Among them is new luxury pearl brand, Autore (Hall 2 H22), a farmer, distributor, and now a designer of high-end South Sea pearls and pearl jewelry. Gom (Hall 2 K38) had pieces made of 19.2k gold with inspirations ranging from forbidden fruit in the Desire collection to confident types in the No. 1 collection. Other notables from Hall 2 include Hellmuth’s foray into watches, outstanding new looks (including the Sunflower ring) from Rodney Raynor, peacock feathers from Gurhan, and really fun and brightly colored enamel jewelry and accessories from Frey Wille.
