Jewelry Menagerie Part 2: Creatures from the Sea

As the fashion press is well into its seasonal coverage of the latest swimwear in anticipation of summer, it’s no surprise that fanciful versions of creatures aquatic are swimming on the pages of favorite magazines again. What is particularly delightful is the variety of sea creatures captured in jewelry art. Here are highlights:

Accompanying a fashion spread on scuba style, the May 2011 issue of Allure features this design of a fish from Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., a gold brooch with aquamarines, amethysts and pink sapphires.

Dolphins dance on this hammered yellow gold and ruby cuff from David Webb featured in the May 2011 issue of More.

The June/July 2011 issue of Town & Country highlights a starfish cuff bracelet from India Hicks.

A charm bracelet shown in the June 2011 issue of O the Oprah Magazine includes turtle and seahorse charms along with a butterfly charm. The bracelet is by John Wind.

Seahorses are a popular favorite. Here are diamond seahorse tassel earrings from Chopard pictured in the February 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar accompanying the horoscope for Aquarius (the Water Bearer).

The June/July 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar features horoscopes for Gemini (the Twins) and Cancer (the Crab) and cleverly accompanies the two months of horoscopes with a pair of gemstone-encrusted crab pins from Le Vian.

One’s horoscope may supply an additional reason to wear year-round a favorite motif rendered in jewelry much too beautiful to be put aside and forgotten when the summer is gone.
