Jewelry Company Turns Foursquare Check-Ins Into Accessories

Meshu, a newly launched jewelry company, allows customers to design jewelry based on their Foursquare check-ins.

Established by Sha Hwang and Rachel Binx, Meshu creates necklaces, earrings, and cufflinks based on locations throughout the world.

“Me and Rachel sat ourselves down in a coffee shop and thought of ideas we were interested in,” Hwang says. “We wanted to make something that has a personal meaning to the individual wearing it.”

The duo combined their tech backgrounds with Binx’s knack for design to come up with the original idea.

Customers are able to log into Foursquare through Meshu’s website or enter locations on a map, creating lines that connect each city or region. Meshu then turns the design into a 3-D model and sends it to the manufacturers. Within a few weeks, the customer has a unique piece of jewelry made out of nylon, acrylic, wood, or silver for the cost of $75–$150.

“People have made designs out of their world travel. I’ve seen pieces symbolizing locations from all over the globe from Alaska, to Australia, to Prague,” Hwang says.

Although the company officially launched last week, Hwang looks forward to the future. “It’s been amazing to work together with Rachel and see other people appreciate our art,” he says.
