Jewelers of America Announces 2016 GEM Awards Winners



Friday night’s swanky gala at Cipriani 42nd Street offered a good time to attendees and well-earned accolades for some of industry’s hardest-working names

Jewelers of America’s 14th annual GEM Awards on Jan. 8 at Cipriani 42nd Street cast a spotlight on several of industry’s most dedicated souls.

The awards recognize the achievements of individuals and firms whose work “raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches,” according to JA. Winners are as follows.

–Joe Thompson (pictured, right), editor-in-chief of WatchTime magazine, took the Lifetime Achievement Award.

–Rob Bates, news director of JCK, took the Media Excellence Award.

–Cartier took the Watch Design Award (Mercedes Abramo, president and CEO of Cartier North America, accepted the award in person on behalf of Cartier).

–Temple St. Clair took the Jewelry Design Award. 

Sponsors of the GEM Awards included Signet Jewelers and Atelier Swarovski as premier sponsors; Chanel, Chopard, David Yurman, TAG Heuer, and ViewPoint as patron sponors; Condé Nast, Hearts On Fire, JCK magazine, Movado Group, Seiko Corp. of America, and Tiffany & Co. as benefactor sponsors. The red carpet was sponsored by COUTURE, the cocktail hour was sponsored by Gemfields, and the livestream was sponsored by Synchrony Financial.
