JCK Industry Fund accepting proposals through Dec. 15

JCK Events, the leading producer of trade events in the fine jewelry industry and the JCK Publishing Group (publishers of JCK, JCKLuxury, and JCKStyle) has announced that applications for grants from the annual JCK Industry Fund will be accepted through Dec. 15. The JCK Industry Fund, now in its eighth year, was established to enhance the image of the jewelry industry and to foster development and research of programs that would benefit the industry.

A total of $400,000 is distributed annually in grants from this fund to individuals, groups, or associations who work towards the betterment of the overall industry. The awards will be presented at The JCK NYC Invitational Event, which is scheduled for March 5-7, 2006, at The Hilton Hotel in New York City.

Each year, the Fund looks to award grants to exemplify one or more of the main objectives of the program:
* To improve the image of the jewelry industry in the eyes of the consumer;

* To aid jewelry industry organizations in addressing serious problems faced within the industry; and/or

* To assist internal organizations and associations in developing training materials.

Last years recipients of the grants included the Jewelers’ Security Alliance, the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, the American Gem Society, Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America and Jewelers of America. The grants were given to the following programs: JSA received $138,000 to fund the production of a jewelry crime training DVD for law enforcement personnel. JVC received $100,000 to support its efforts to provide enhanced legal compliance for the jewelry industry in the form of improved monitoring, education and communication. AGS received two separate grants of $50,000 and $12,000 to both support their 2005 education program at the AGS Conclave and their AGS Graduate Sales Associate educational program for 2005, respectively. MJSA received $68,000 to further the development of their “Safe and Secure” program. JA received $32,000 to aid them in their project, “Protecting the Reputation of Our Products and Business: Managing Social, Ethical and Environmental Responsibilities and Risks.”

“JCK is passionate about the Industry Fund’s objective to aid industry groups, associations, and/or individuals who need financial support to launch a beneficial program that would have a positive effect on the industry,” said Dave Bonaparte, vice president of JCK Events. “It is an essential element and part of our corporate responsibility to give back and continue to nurture an industry that has given so much too so many.”

Mark Smelzer, publisher, JCK Publishing Group, adds, “The JCK Industry Fund is an incredibly generous endeavor and the magazine is thrilled to be a part of this process which gives back so much to our industry. We encourage all relevant groups and organizations to apply for these grants which have a great impact on our industry.”

In order to be considered for this grant program, applicants must submit their formal proposal in writing directly to JCK Events and the JCK Publishing Group, and include all of the following elements: the purpose of the grant; the amount requested; timing for allocation of monies and a plan for its allocation; historical budget data; measurable expected benefits; and an agreement outlining JCK’s right to conduct financial auditing of funds allocated to ensure suitable usage.

This complete package of information must be received by Dec. 15. Copies of the proposals should be sent directly to Dave Bonaparte, Vice President, JCK Events, 383 Main Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851 and Mark Smelzer, Publisher, JCK Publishing Group, 360 Park Avenue South, New York, NY 10010.

All applications will be reviewed and final recipients will be chosen by a Fund Advisory Committee comprised of representatives from the manufacturing and retail segment, as well as the JCK Publishing Group and JCK Events. The recipients will be chosen based on their synergy with the overall core goals and intentions of the Fund.  The Fund recipients will be announced at The JCK NYC Invitational, March 5-7, 2006 at the Hilton Hotel, New York, NY.
