Janitor Allegedly Stole Lorraine Schwartz’s Ring From Red Carpet, Report Says

A carpet cleaner has been accused of pocketing a $250,000 Lorraine Schwartz ring that slipped from the designer’s finger onto the red carpet at the Golden Globes, according to a report on TMZ.com.

This bizarre story began when designer Lorraine Schwartz reported missing a ring with a 10.62 ct. yellow diamond that she wore on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, says the gossip site, quoting “legal docs.”

TMZ says the celebrity jeweler originally believed it was stolen, but it turned out to have slipped off her finger. Later, a carpet cleaner found the ring and allegedly submitted it to the Gemological Institute of America, the report says.

The GIA identified it as stolen and notified police, it adds, which says authorities are investigating.

GIA spokesman Stephen Morisseau says: “The item was reported as missing to the police and a copy of the report was provided to us. We identified the stone when it was submitted for grading and notified the authorities.”

Reps from Lorraine Schwartz did not respond to requests for comment at press time.
