IDL Included in India Foreign Trade Policy

International Diamond Laboratories has been included in the Annual Supplement of the Foreign Trade Policy of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, allowing IDL to ship diamonds between Mumbai and Dubai for certification. This will make the IDL certification services available to the Indian diamond community upon the start of production in September this year.

“We very much welcome the Government decision enabling IDL to service the Indian diamond community,” said Ahmed bin Sulayem, chief operating officer of the DMCC and a IDL board of directors member. “It underlines the importance of the trade between India and the Middle East and the belief of the market in a new, global and high quality diamond certification service.”

The new diamondlab is an initiative of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, a strategic initiative of the government of Dubai that provides industry-specific market infrastructure and services to key sectors like the diamond market. Headquartered in Dubai, it will have branches in Antwerp and Mumbai. The first certificate is to be issued in September 2007.
