GIA Offering Melee Synthetic Screening

The Melee Analysis Service can screen diamonds down to 0.005 ct.

Following a five-month pilot program, GIA is now offering its Melee Analysis Service to the trade at large.

The GIA Melee Analysis Service separates natural, untreated diamonds from simulants, synthetic, and treated diamonds. It also sorts the screened diamonds by color range. The automated system can analyze and screen D to Z color diamonds ranging from 0.005 to 0.25 ct. It will be offered at most GIA laboratories.

The cost of the service ranges from eight to 40 cents per stone based on diameter, with a minimum of 500 pieces in each parcel. Once sorted, the melee is sealed in secure packaging for shipment.
