Starting in August, Paul Deasy, author, gem expert, and TV shopping veteran, will guest host ShopNBC’s new series “The Gem Insider.” The new program for the shopping channel will “showcase exotic and rare gems, but it will also be a legitimate source for the story behind each gem, including its history, culture, geography, and mining traditions,” ShopNBC recently announced.

In addition to his travels all over the world to gemstone mining sources, Deasy has also authored “Colored Gemstones” and is currently working on another book titled “Opals.” Deasy is no stranger to the shopping channels with work that includes host stints on HSN and QVC.

Next month Deasy will host specials on iolite, opaque stones such as lapis and onyx as well as gemstones from America’s Southwest, namely turquoise and Peridot. “This new special show was created to help demystify gemstones in a way that both educates and entertains,” says Deasy.

“His passion for uncovering the mysteries behind these precious stones and insight into the magical process that turns raw material into some of the world’s most beautiful natural objects is second-to-none,” says Paul Kelley, ShopNBC’s Vice President of On-Air Talent.
