Gübelin Gem Lab offers shuttle between Lucerne and the U.S.

The Gübelin Gem Lab has launched a new courier service that enables American clients to ship their diamonds, colored stones, pearls, and jewelry to its lab in Lucerne, Switzerland, without delay, extra cost, or additional customs formalities, the lab said in a statement. Called the “Gübelin Shuttle,” it will enable the lab to return clients’ items to New York within 10 days.

Product for evaluation will leave the office of Malca Amit in downtown New York (580 Fifth Avenue, lobby floor) every Tuesday afternoon, allowing clients until midday to deliver their packages. All import and export formalities are then taken care of by the courier service. The shipped items are returned to the New York office 10 days later (the following Friday) by midday.

The shuttle has a rate of $380, plus 0.07% liability coverage based on the declared package value (excluding insurance and laboratory testing costs). This rate is valid per package, round trip, no matter how many items are included. The low cost of the shuttle along with the higher number of items per package provides additional savings per item, the company said. For example, a package valued at $100,000 would have a fixed price of $380 plus a liability coverage charge of $70 for a total cost of $450.

The Gübelin Shuttle enables American based gemstone dealers, jewelry retailers, and even private individuals to profit from the Gem Lab’s experienced and advanced analytical techniques. Similar shuttles for further destinations such as London, Japan, Hong Kong, and Bangkok are being developed.
