Friday 5: The Top Trends From JCK Las Vegas

My time at JCK Las Vegas this year was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Not only did I catch a glimpse of amazing jewelry, but I got to hold it, wear it, and talk with the exhibitors responsible for it. There’s no better place for a jewelry nut like me. I saw a lot of tourmaline, tsavorite, and green amethyst. I drooled over “wow” pieces, like Omi Privé’s sapphire and diamond bracelet. I learned about many of the trends that retailers are hunting for and purchasing by asking the exhibitors what had been popular. Many answers included the aforementioned stones, but take a look at what I think are the top five trends from JCK Las Vegas 2012.

Convertibles

Gumuchian took the cake with its diamond-covered convertible necklaces, one of which could be worn seven ways. Gottlieb & Sons showcased its award-winning earring jackets (above) that could be worn as drops or knots, and Elena Kriegner showed a new collection of convertible rings and pendants.

Turquoise and Tangerine Tango

Color was huge, particularly at Goshwara, where designer Sweta Jain is known for her bright designs (like her earrings, pictured above). Retailers were hopping on the Tangerine Tango trend and buying the reddish-orange hue, such as the fire opals popular at Yael. Turquoise was also abundant throughout the show.

A New Take on Engagement Rings

Asymmetrical designs and artsy vibes took the place of the typical solitaire engagement ring at many booths, where retailers were on the hunt for something a bit different for their bridal showcases. Brands such as Frank Reubel, Nada G (above), and Erik Stewart showcased a refreshing take on the diamond ring.

Black diamonds for men

Susan from Edward Mirell shared with me that black diamond jewelry for men (such as the ring pictured above), was a big seller, and then I started to notice it everywhere I saw men’s jewelry, including Novell Design Studio and Heston Designs.

Yellow Diamonds
