Fred Leighton to Launch Wholesale Jewelry Collection

If you’ve ever drooled over vintage Fred Leighton jewels on stars walking the red carpet in Hollywood, then you’ll be delighted to know about an opportunity to buy into a new line inspired by the spirit of that famous brand.

Debuting during the upcoming Jewelry Week in Las Vegas, the Fred Leighton Collection—owned and operated by Kwiat, which purchased Fred Leighton in 2009—speaks to the jewelry house’s heritage, and “infuses it with a modern sensibility” that “evokes the style of a vintage era,” according to the company.

The inaugural collection, which can be viewed by appointment in the Mouton 2 ballroom at Couture, highlights the aesthetic of the Art Deco period, as is evident in black jade and diamond drop earrings and chain necklaces, carved jade pendant earrings, and briolette drops with lapis lazuli and pink opal. Classic styles and motifs from the 19th century—including clusters, starbursts, and rivieres—feature amethyst, citrine, and multicolored sapphires. Additionally, the Fred Leighton Estate Jewels—a curated estate jewelry collection for which the brand is best known—will also be available. Distribution of both lines will be limited to a select group of retail partners in the United States and around the world.

“Fred Leighton is one of the most exclusive names in jewelry and is synonymous with vintage style,” CEO Greg Kwiat told the press this week.

“We wanted to expand the company’s horizons to also create beautiful new pieces,” Kwiat told JCK in an email interview on May 8. “In our day-to-day experiences at Fred Leighton, we are surrounded by some of the most beautiful jewelry from all throughout history. We used this as the inspiration for some of the beautiful new pieces in our collection, updating them for a modern-day woman.”

There will be approximately 50 SKUs in the debut collection in white gold and platinum, though some pieces will even be made in the Victorian style of using silver-topped yellow gold. While no retailer orders have been placed yet, the company has previewed a few items with select retailers, and the reaction “has been very positive,” said Kwiat.
