Doubling Up on Earrings on One Ear

It’s not clear if this trend has staying power, but stylists are coming up with a creative way to get more volume out of earrings—they simply position two earrings on the same ear.

And the earrings being paired up aren’t studs. Over the last few years, multiple stud earrings worn in one or both ears has been a style adopted by more than a few statement-making fashionistas. Now, either clip-style earrings are placed side-by-side, or larger designs of pierced earrings are substituting for a pair of studs in pierced earring holes in one ear.

The July 2012 issue of Elle styles actress Jessica Paré in a 10-page fashion spread wearing a pair of silver earrings by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. on one ear in seven of those pages. In the above photo, Paré wears the earrings with a jacket and blouse with necktie from Giorgio Armani, a neoprene skirt from Prabal Gurung, and leather gloves from Carolina Amato. Her platinum and diamond brooch worn top center of her blouse is from Beladora.

Here’s a close-up photo of Pare in the same issue of Elle, wearing the Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. silver earrings plus a tie pin from Ovation with a silk shirt from Gucci.

Singer Rita Ora is pictured in the August 2012 issue of Glamour wearing a pair of Chanel earrings together on one ear. She wears a jumper from Isabel Marant and scarf from Sammy Ethiopia. Her bangles and lambskin bracelets are from Chanel; her shell bracelets are from Billabong.

The structure of one’s ears will play a large role in determining whether this is a viable look for a particular individual. The double earring look presents an intriguing option for someone who likes an unexpected, edgy look.
