Chic Cobalt Blue

For the many people who identify blue as their favorite color, this season is overflowing with the exciting hue in apparel and the jewelry that adorns it.

The October 2012 issue of Lucky reports that the social media manager of Bergdorf Goodman is wearing “major, major blue” this fall. Her obsession: cobalt blue. Among her picks is a rhinestone brooch that complements the hue but doesn’t incorporate it. The brooch about which she comments is from Juliana by Delizza & Elster: “I’d add this to one of my already-embellished jackets.”

The collaboration between Manhattan boutique Kirna Zabete and Target stores is reported in the October 2012 issue of Good Housekeeping. Pictured is a bauble necklace and the note that “Cobalt gems pop against black.”

Black and blue together is the theme of one of the season’s top trends as reported in People magazine’s Sept. 17, issue: “This surprising color combination—black with cerulean, royal or navy—makes a big impact in a complete outfit or in small doses.” Among the featured items is a black and blue glass and acrylic necklace from W/A Studios.

Cobalt blue, black, cerulean and turquoise are combined in pleasing combinations in the September 2012 issue of Marie Claire. Singer Miley Cyrus is pictured in a Roberto Cavalli dress accompanied by an Etro cuff and Iradj Moini ring. In the “Shop the Cover Shoot” compilation, which pictures a cobalt blue Chanel ensemble accented with a huge collar and matching cuffs, are a pair of bracelets from Bar III; a Chanel blue face watch; a double finger ring from Stephen Webster, and arrow earrings from Elena Votsi at Bergdorf Goodman.

The September 2012 issue of Real Simple advises: “Oxblood, emerald, and gold are all big, but the ultimate color of the season is cobaltand it will have you (happily!) singing the blues. Combine variations of the shade, or tone it down with gray.” Among the featured items is an acrylic and gold plate necklace from Danielle Stevens and a brass and metal bracelet from Fantasy Jewelry Box.

The September 2012 issue of Redbook reports that matching is back: “Pair up your jewelry and clothes: There’s something happy-making about wearing a whole lot of your favorite hue, and colored stones are just so chic.” The necklace pictured is from Stella & Dot, worn with a dress from Vince Camuto.

This head-to-toe look in shades of blue appears in the September 2012 issue of Marie Claire. A short collar-length necklace from Georg Jensen and watch from Cartier accent the ensemble, consisting of a coat and pants from Sportmax, top from Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers, belt from Richard Chai for Filson, clutch from Salvatore Ferragamo, and gloves from LaCrasia.

A sporty take on cobalt blue is a theme in the September 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. A blue and black necklace from Ten Thousand Things is featured, along with a blue face Omega watch, a thick white metal ring from Campbell, and a pair of white metal cuff bracelets from Hermès.

The August 2012 issue of Allure features “Cool blue pieces made for chilling out” as weekend wear. Among the items featured are a “semiprecious-stone-and gold bracelet” from Style Sovereign; a diamond, sapphire and satin bracelet from Alexandra Moosally; and a pair of acrylic bead and brass earrings from Roxanne Assoulin for Lee Angel.

Allure likes blue for professional wear too: “Add some indigo energy to your black work wardrobe.” Among the items featured are a pair of gold-plated brass and sapphire-quartz earrings from Betty Carré; a denim, gunmetal, and Swarovski crystal bracelet from Camille K; a pair of Swarovski crystal earrings from Elizabeth Cole Jewelry; and a stainless steel watch with a blue face from Esq Movado.
