At Home on the Range: Country & Western Styles

Perfect for barbecues on balmy nights, a couple of themes in fashion and jewelry are designed to be at home on the range.

The March 2012 issue of Elle reports: “Longhorn motifs and kitschy paisleys get a city slicker update” in a feature it calls “Rodeo Drive.” Displaying longhorn motifs, the layout features a rope necklace from Aurelie Bidermann; the silver ring with black sapphires is from John Hardy. The model at left wears a silver and leather pendant necklace also from John Hardy.

“Best Western” is the title of a fashion spread in the April 2012 issue of Marie Claire, which has nary a traditional cowboy boot in the lot. The jewelry includes a scorpion pendant necklace from Tiffany & Co., a barbed wire theme bracelet from Tom Ford; a ram’s head ring from Solange Azagury-Partridge, and a phenomenal pearl and gemstone-encrusted cactus brooch from Van Cleef & Arpels, along with the more expected leather bracelets from Pandora Jewelry and a leather cord bracelet set with yellow gold and diamond beads from Shamballa Jewels.

Miu Miu’s take on Western boots anchor this ensemble pictured in the March 2012 issue of Elle. The model wears Czech glass stone and silver plate earrings and bracelet from Ben-Amun, a crystal necklace from Lanvin, a turquoise and sterling silver bracelet and silver long ring from Vicki Turbeville, a quartz ring from Pamela Love, and a Schield Collection star ring made with Swarovski Elements from Swarovski Crystallized. The model also wears a silk dress form Valentino, denim jacket from The Clothing Warehouse, and Lycra bikini from DSquared.

The February 2012 issue of Vogue looks to a country theme rather than Western wear in a fashion spread entitled “Country Strong”: “It’s Nashville by way of Napa, as shown by vintner Michele Ouellet of Lorenza Rose wine, whose floral frocks, gingham checks, and raffia accessories have a sweet, rustic charm.” Her jewelry of choice: a gold key pendant and link necklace from Tiffany & Co.

A Western-style gingham organza shirt and embossed leather skirt with socks and shoes all from Marc Jacobs are accented with what appears to be a chunky bracelet in this photo also from the February 2012 issue of Vogue. The magazine does not identify either the designer or the source of the jewelry. The fellow to the left is actor Aaron Eckhart.

In the April 2012 issue of Marie Claire, in the preface to the “Best Western” collage feature, fashion director Nina Garcia writes: “The biggest impact can come from small add-ons. . . . [A]ccessories are the true workhorses of every look. The right heel or bag can offer an escape from the ordinary–or even area code.. . . “

Marie Claire accessorizes a shirt, pants and belt from Balmain with a hat from Minnetonka, bags from Valentino Garavani and Mulberry, and the following assortment of jewelry: curb-link necklace, Cartier; lariat necklace & long pendant necklace, Tiffany & Co.; rope necklace, Vhernier. On model’s right arm and hand: cuff, de Grisogono; watches, Rolex; bracelet, Carlo Weingrill Tubogas; snake ring, Anita Ko; panther ring, Cartier. On model’s left arm and hand: watches, Versace; link bracelet, Verdura; woven bracelet, Bulgari; small charm ring, Deborah Pagani; sculptural ring, de Grisogono; gold ring, Bulgari. If small add-ons make a big impact, the above image is clearly meant to wow.
