Alrosa Introduces New Synthetic Detector

The new tool is described as small and easy to use

Russian diamond miner Alrosa has introduced a new synthetic diamond detection device.

The device can identify natural polished diamonds, synthetics, and treated diamonds, as well as non-diamond imitations (simulants) such as cubic zirconia and moissanite.

The producer describes the device, which comes with just two buttons, as easy to use. It weighs less than 1.5 kg and can operate from a battery (including smartphone batteries), Alrosa says.

The device was introduced at the September Hong Kong Jewellry & Gem Fair. It will be sold in 2017.
