Barbie Baubles

She has long had her dream house, her camper, her cabana, and, of course, her Ken. Barbie, it would seem, is a woman who has it all. Even more so now, thanks to Los Angeles jewelers Alan and Layna Friedman.

The Friedmans are launching Barbie Rocks, a line of Barbie-themed precious jewels this spring (hope Barbies and their Kens everywhere have been saving up). The new collection includes two signature necklaces: the Luxe Barbie pendant and Barbie dog tag, both featuring 18k white, yellow, or rose gold with white or black diamonds, or yellow or pink sapphires; and the Classic necklace in sterling silver. Chunky Barbie Love toggle bracelets are available in sterling silver with 18k rose gold charms.

The pieces, according to promoters, represent "the epitome of Barbie doll's style, panache, and distinctive flair" to appeal to "girls of all ages."

An informal poll of JCKstyle girls revealed a range of reactions—from excitement to "Now I've seen everything" to one particularly cynical eye-roll. All however, were impressed that Barbie is (OK, Mattel and the Friedmans are) infusing the venture with a dose of philanthropy, donating a portion of the Barbie Rocks proceeds to the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation.

"Barbie has touched the hearts of girls and women for nearly five decades, inspiring imaginations, encouraging 'girl power,' and being a continual symbol of style," says Layna Friedman.

With prices topping out at $15,000, now she will touch their wallets.

Weekly Gem
In a nothing-to-joke-about note, Hollywood darling Neil Lane lost his shop to a devastating fire this week. On the upside, much of his inventory was out on loan to celebrities attending the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. The downside, records of who borrowed what went up in flames. Here's wishing for honest starlets 'fessing up and returning the jewels on their honor.
