A Gem of an Event

Charity events are nothing unusual for independent jewelers, but East Coast Jewelry elevated the concept with its first Gems of Time Invitational.

The event, held to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, brought together 300 of South Florida's finest for a full day of luxury at La Gorce Country Club in Miami Beach.

While it all started with a cocktail reception (standard fare for charity events, of course), that served merely as the kickoff for the multiday Gems of Time Invitational. A myriad of sponsorships helped take the event to another level. Among them, lunch sponsored by W magazine and a reception sponsored by Veuve Clicquot champagne. Among the daylong festivities were a celebrity golf tournament featuring Brett Quickley, Nicholas Thompson, and Alexis Thompson; fashion; complementary spa treatments; and displays of jewelry and watches by East Coast Jewelry. Among the participants were Leo Pizzo, de Grisogono, Corum, and Hermès. Former Miami Dolphins football star Louis Oliver served as master of ceremonies.

East Coast Jewelry, owned by father-and-son team Michael and Bobby Yampolsky, has three stores in South Florida. This was their first attempt at such an event and, while money is still being tallied, Make-A-Wish and East Coast Jewelry call the event a success. Given the innovative idea, high profile, and multitude cosponsorships, JCKstyle agrees.

Weekly Gem
In yet another tale of a celebrity trying to polish her image, former wild child Nicole Richie is following motherhood with a new business venture. The new mom has launched a line of jewelry. While reportedly costume in nature, the jewels are being produced by Mouawad, the brand behind Heidi Klum's collection.
