Britt’s Pick: Sydney Lynch’s Spring Garden Necklace

This work of art is ready to be shown off

I have admired the work of Sydney Lynch since my first encounter with the jewelry designer (and, coincidentally, my first visit to the show) at JCK Las Vegas. Well, the admiration continues, attributed to her skillful craft evident in each design—if you haven’t seen the cuff bracelets, you’ve got some work to do. Lynch is an artist, and she’s able to throw certain elements together and make them work like a gifted chef let loose in the kitchen: Whatever ingredients go into the mix coming out tasting like one of the best things you’ve ever eaten. This necklace is the prime example. With faceted, rose-cut, and briolette stones, mixed metals, and a variety of shapes and sizes, the design pulls from many different places, and yet it comes together in a neat package thanks to its like-color grouping and smart layout. You’ve no doubt heard the terms wearable art or art-to-wear many times, and I believe that this designer’s creations truly have a claim to those monikers. I am, as always, left eagerly awaiting what she’ll come up with next.
