Posh a trendsetter? Without a doubt, but when the former Spice Girl stepped out for dinner one fateful night years ago in that golden pair of spiked, limited-edition, Christian Louboutin for Rodarte heels, even the couture-savvy Victoria Beckham might not have realized the stir she would create, essentially paving the way for spear-like motifs to move into the mainstream. Spikes then appeared in the ready-to-wear collections of Balmain and Burberry Prorsum, in the Joan Jett–esque hair stylings on models at Jean Paul Gaultier, and of course, jewelry designers followed suit. Spiky jewels are rendered using a number of offbeat gem and metal shapes, including inverted settings, which show stones sitting culet-up. They pay homage to urban living, minimalist architecture, tribal aesthetics, handbags and motorcycle jackets, and allow wearers to channel their inner rock star.
