Pendants, earrings, floral motifs…these are all good settings for pretty, lustrous pearls. Unless, of course, you’re Ron Greenidge, director of Emiko Pearls in Bellevue, Wash., who loves to turn beautiful pearls into creepy-crawly bug-inspired jewelry—most recently, a massive arachnoid. Spotted at his booth last week at the AGTA Tucson GemFair 2012, a big, hairy tarantula served as the inspiration for a masterfully made 18k gold and diamond pin/pendant combination. Two fancy cream-colored South Seas pearls (measuring 20.5 mm by 22 mm and 21.5 mm by 21 mm) are accented by 1.37 cts. t.w. black and 1.34 cts. t.w. yellow diamonds. The piece retails for $32,000.
