With the royal wedding approaching, sapphire dealers continue to churn out Diana-inspired rings across all price points. But one unveiled this week from New York City's Natural Sapphire Company may be the priciest one yet.

At $1.5 million, an unheated 69.35 ct. natural blue sapphire, set in a platinum mounting with 8 cts. t.w. colorless diamonds, could give Kate—no matter how fabulous the backstory on her famous estate piece—some serious ring envy.

The Natural Sapphire Co.

According to the company, the ring “has been certified by four international gem laboratories, including the Gemological Institute of America” and, “originates from the famous gem mines of Ceylon [Sri Lanka],” according to a statement.

Natural Sapphire Company CEO Michael Arnstein declared the ring to be "the finest…we've ever created in our 72-year history.“ At that price, it could also be a contender for the one with the highest price tag.

If you had the $$$, would you spend it on a sapphire like this…or on a diamond?
