Iconic Timepiece Firm Jaquet Droz Brings Exhibition to Las Vegas

Jaquet Droz, the venerable European timepiece brand, will showcase exquisite pieces from its 276-year history at an exhibit in Las Vegas this fall.

The Enchanted Journey Exhibit, which has already traveled to Moscow; Basel, Switzerland; Shanghai; Hong Kong; and Macau, will be erected in front of the Tourbillon boutique at the Shops at Crystals from Sept. 30 to Nov. 12. It will travel to the Middle East following its stint in Vegas.

Some of the brand’s most famous pieces, dating back to the 18th century, will be on display—including the Singing Bird Cage Clock (ca. 1780), which set a new bar for decorative crafts in timepieces, and the Bird Repeater, a miniature automaton mechanism integrated into a minute-repeater complication.

The attention to detail, creative funcationality, and sheer artistry in the pieces—from the brand’s early days to its present—make for a compelling study of the juxtaposition of sublime decorative arts and innovative clock/watch mechanics.

“By bringing to the public original Jaquet Droz timepieces dating from the 18th century, we can tell them a little bit about the brand’s history and values,” says Christian Lattmann, vice president of Jaquet Droz.

Lattmann added that the exhibit “exalts not only our history, but also our passion for perfection and accuracy. It reveals the dexterity of watchmaking and the beauty of artistic decorations such as hand engraving and miniature painting.”

The company was founded in France in 1738 and is currently owned by the Swatch Group.
