Senior Editor Rob Bates once said, “Laura is the queen of self-referential blogs.” Well, no subtle references here- this blog is all about me. JCK and me.

Tomorrow is my last day at the magazine, after almost three years of working here. I began as an assistant to JCK’s power trio- Mark Smelzer, Hedda Schupak, and Donna Borrelli- an inspiring threesome. Each asked about my aspirations early on and, when I told them I wanted to write, pledged to help me get there.

A year and a half later, I was the lone associate editor for JCK, JCK Luxury, and JCKstyle among six senior editors, each experts in a specific area of the industry.

Unlike my crafty co-workers, I didn’t get a chance to blog while in Vegas (to learn about some of the things I was doing instead, read Carrie's Diary). I’m home now, ruminating over what is, each year, the busiest week of my life, and wanted to offer some of my jewelry highlights…

• The creatures of the Italian Pavillion. So many beautiful designs over there, many expanding on the animal theme we’ve been seeing. The diamond and white gold spider cuff at Joell [no image unfortunately…though one couldn’t do justice, anyway] is not to be missed.

As my JCK co-workers know all too well, my Bachelor obsession reached an all time high this season, as my very own friend competed for and won bachelor Andy Baldwin’s heart. She is the lovely, elegant Tessa- a favorite among not only those who know her but most people with whom I discussed the show.

My high school friends and I screamed for several reasons Monday night as Andy put a beautiful, simple Chopard engagement ring on Tessa’s hand. This is the second piece of jewelry she has received from the Officer and the Gentleman, the first being a diamond Chopard necklace and earrings in an earlier episode (perhaps we should have caught on then that she’d receive the final rose)- which Tessa did not get to keep.

Sometimes, you take an interest in something new only to discover it’s been around you all along. Like, your friend gets pregnant and you realize for the first time how many toy and baby clothing stores are in your neighborhood.

This happens a lot when you write for a living- you choose a subject for an upcoming article and, in the research, realize just how relevant it is (often it goes the other way, but sometimes it goes this way)- and it is happening to me right now, as I work on a piece about environmentally-friendly jewelry.

In our office, blogging is often the product of spontaneous collaboration. Someone in my aisle will audibly wonder about a certain jewelry company or designer or trend, another will respond, someone else will ask a follow up question, and the most eager participant will volunteer to write it. Today’s process went something like this:

Rob: Someone made the world’s largest diamond pendant.

Me: It was Jason of Beverly Hills! Was it Jason of Beverly Hills? I just saw them. If it’s not Jason of Beverly Hills, then someone just topped them.

Rob: I don’t know, but it’s being worn by Lil’ Jon. Yes! It is Jason of Beverly Hills. They’re getting into Guiness.
