John Hardy Jewelry Fall 2009

April 27, 2009

Fans of John Hardy jewelry love his signature motifs—think the Balinese dot—that remind wearers of the designer’s beloved adopted country, Indonesia. So when Guy Bedarida, creative director, John Hardy, took over the design reigns at the jewelry brand in 2007–he has been with the company since 1999–he was charged with creating jewelry in the likeness of the iconic John Hardy aesthetic (not an easy task). Thankfully, Bedarida continues to hold his own, as was evident at a preview this morning of the fall 2009 line. New motifs include the tiger and other animals, while additions to the Bamboo and Kaya collections join existing pieces.

Roar! The tiger inspires much of this year’s John Hardy jewelry.

The Tiger collection features black sapphires (which are natural in color) set in sterling silver. Some 60 percent of all John Hardy jewelry is made of recycled silver, which is tougher to source and more costly to use, according to Bedarida. Suggested retail prices start at $295.

New this year is the double rope of silver; the look is pulled from the archives, according to Bedarida.

The Bamboo collection for women features styles in 18k gold and in silver. For every piece purchased in this collection, a tree is planted in Bali. In the past 10 years, some 23,000 trees have been planted, according to Bedarida. Suggested retail prices in 18k gold start at $1,295 and in silver start at $295.

New additions to the Kaya collection of oversize three-stone cocktail rings are smaller than originals and retail for less than $1,000.

New animal, religious, and bamboo motifs for men start at $295.

The mouths of dragon and tiger motif bracelets open and serve as clasps.

Beautiful and elaborate galleries complete many new pieces.

This is great, but still doesn ot change the faact that John Hardy Jewelry is not moving in our cases. I have no idea what to do other than put it on sale and delist myself as a hardy retailer. JH went through a period of being WAY OUT THERE design wise, to come around again in a terrible economy.
