A New View on Metalwork: Sonya Ooten's Fishnets
November 9, 2006
Sometimes, as JCK readers and writers well know, one has a visceral reaction to a piece of jewelry. Such was the case when I recently viewed designer Sonya Ooten’s new Fishnet Collection.

The pieces feature big gems covered in gold netting. Some are fully enclosed; others peek out through “tears” in the wiring. The effect is a lovely juxtaposition of lady-like delicateness and late night adventure (with a little chain link fence mixed in).
Our fashion team noted the metalwork-over-stones trend earlier this year, but Ooten puts an innovative, welcome spin on the theme. Makes me think fishnets may have value other than in adulterating cat and bunny costumes on Halloween.
