Trend Watch: Icy Silvery Drama for the Wrist

This display of beautiful icy silver-colored watches from the October 2009 issue of InStyle magazine can simultaneously seem to cause the temperature to drop in the room and the pulse to race.
The effect is created by the bright silvery metallic leather straps on each of the watches, accenting a stainless steel case “iced with diamonds, flowers or mirrored extras,” as described by InStyle. Diamonds adorn the timepiece selections by Michele and Tissot; floral engravings distinguish the watch by Philip Stein, and mirrored extras are design details on the watch by Diesel.

With the extreme silvery-whiteness of these timepieces, choosing white metal for any and all other jewelry being worn, along with white metal accents on shoes and handbags, best provides a coherent look. InStyle suggests that the watches can be worn “with all your fall staples.” If you are drawn toward autumnal colors of red, orange and yellow hues, yellow gold may be the richer and more expected color choice in jewelry. Silver metallic designs, however, can appear essentially neutral, a non-color, if you will, and thus can work with just about everything.

As colorless as these style are, in a sense, they are nonetheless eye-catching. The dazzling silver-white hue of these watches makes them an attractive choice for individuals with a dramatic style personality. And where a look-at-me approach to life is combined with visually dramatic personal coloring, especially if someone has extreme levels of contrast (pale skin and very dark hair, or dark skin and white hair), these watches can be exceptionally attractive.

It’s remarkable how much intense drama can be created visually with the use of a humble silver-colored leather strap to anchor a gleaming timepiece. And for the most limited budget, a similar look can be achieved with the replacement of the watch strap on a stainless steel or other white metal-faced wristwatch.
