More on Necklaces with One-Shouldered Looks: Example of a Do

September 3, 2009

Going through my photo files in preparation for an upcoming workshop, I came across this photo of actress Cynthia Nixon, taken at the 2004 Primetime Emmy Awards. Since my recent column included an example of a Don’t in combining a necklace with a one-shouldered dress, I’d like to share this photo as a great example of how a short necklace might work beautifully with a one-shouldered garment.

Nixon wears a short, multi-strand turquoise necklace with her one-shouldered gown. A necklace that voluminous wouldn’t work equally well on everyone, however. It works on Nixon because she is tall and has a long, straight neck and is also relatively long-waisted. When choosing jewelry, it is always important to relate the jewelry to the wearer.
