Trend Watch: Winter Wonderland

While the wildfires of Southern California are so recent that ash and soot still spot surfaces that have been undisturbed these last couple of weeks, the thought of other surfaces blanketed with snow seems refreshingly appropriate as Thanksgiving approaches. Many designers have embraced the natural beauty of winter this year in their design motifs for apparel and accessories.

Along with bright silver fabrics, shoes and handbags reflecting the icy beauty of winter, knit garments incorporate a snowflake motif, Judith Leiber features a crystal polar bear minaudiere, Dolce & Gabbana adorns sunglasses with a flurry of crystal snowflakes, and all manner of snowflakes are rendered in jewelry. Elle magazine, in its November 2008 issue, presents a collage of some of these delightful designs, a sampling of which is shown below. It all seems so appropriate after a political season in which the State of Alaska figured so prominently.
