Five Reasons to Be Excited for 2009
December 19, 2008
Our current economic climate is ideal for taking the lead over competitors. When everyone else is frightened and disorganized, your business can surge ahead through an unwavering focus on your specific niche. Don’t be distracted by naysayers or negative press. Here are five headlines that support my optimistic view:
* Darwinian pain strengthens good companies.
* Ignore the headlines and sell.
* Find your best employees now.
* Some will just never go without their favorite luxury.

This is so true- there are some people who will forgo meals to buy
their favorite items, among them jewelry pieces! I have, and I
would not be surprised that many reading this have, also!
Additionally, if you just look through history, you will see that
there have always been people who can afford to buy jewelry, no
matter what the economy may be doing or not doing. Indeed, if we
look at some of the causes of today's difficulties in the present
economy, it appears that people put more thought into how they go
about buying jewelry than how they buy houses! Granted, some were
victimized by unscrupulous people in the real estate industry, but
on the other hand, you could say those buyers did not bother to
read the fine print, either. Then again, perhaps jewelry is in some
ways, a better investment than real estate. When you buy real
estate, you pay property taxes every year. You don't have to do
that when you buy a piece of jewelry. However, when people ask me
if they should invest in jewelry, I usually tell them that unless
they are buying a major, named stone, or a major piece from a named
jewelry house they should not bother. After all, why buy something
beautiful only to put it in a vault? If they want to invest, I tell
them to go to a good investment banker or broker they can trust,
and to find one, word of mouth is often a good way. Yes, this is an
excellent time to find the best employees around- those who will
stick with you through thick and thin, because they love jewelry,
they love sharing their enthusiasm for jewelry, and they will go
that extra mile to make your store a success! Have you noticed that
the present trend in the news is all bad news? Ignore it.
Concentrate on your good points, and do everything to make your
customers feel good-even if they do not buy anything that day, if
they have been made to feel welcome and happy when they are in your
environment, they will eventually buy something, in part because
they will be taking home some of that environment with them, and
they will be made happy each time they wear the piece they bought
from your store, and you will have a repeat customer-even if they
forgo meals! In this way, you really can be a fountain- a fountain
of goodwill and good feelings, and customers really respond to
that! I know I do-don't you? Happy New Year!
