A New Year Means Renewed Subscriptions
In light of the new year and new president, I think this is a great time to remind everyone of how easy it is to subscribe to JCK Luxury and JCK magazines. Everyone is, at times, guilty of letting important periodical subscriptions lapse (and many days, just getting through the morning paper is an accomplishment to celebrate!). But when you miss an issue of JCK Luxury & JCK, you really do miss a lot.

For example, did you read “Approach with Care: Getting Help for ‘May I Help You?" in the January issue of JCK? The piece outlines 10 alternative greetings to the lukewarm customer service salutation. In the same issue, a best-practices article about Swerk Jewelers details the steps of that store’s successful advertising campaign that utlizes the family surname as a verb.

In the fall issue of JCK Luxury, the investigative piece “I.O.U.” analyzes what went wrong with jewelers in bankruptcy and offers tips to others on how to avoid similar distress. The gorgeous still-life photography in the “A La Mode” section showcases new sterling styles from high-end jewelry designers, and a profile of the new The Water Club hotel in Atlantic City reveals how another luxury business drives traffic through its doors.

An up-to-date subscription to JCK Luxury and JCK is also critical if you want to see yourself or your clients in print (JCK editors write about dozens of different subjects in every new issue). Jewelry designers, retailers, and public relations and marketing firms—along with any other related jewelry businesses—that aim to run savvy and efficient operations should be sure that subscriptions are up to date so that they don’t miss one bit of press. [Editors do not routinely alert article subjects of their print status because of the volume of interviews and articles we produce]. Tax-deductible subscriptions are the best way to make sure that you don’t miss out!
And for those interested in securing press coverage, kindly send us press kits including:
- CDs of images of PRODUCT ON WHITE BACKGROUNDS; Send ONLY JPEGS that are a minimum of 1MB IN SIZE.*
- A brief description of all materials used, including metal type and carat weights.
- Suggested retail prices per piece or a starting suggested retail price for an entire line.
If your press kit is missing any of these items, chances of you receiving press lessen significantly.
*Editor’s Note: Please do not send tiffs, Photoshop documents or EPS files because JPEGs are the easiest format for staff to evaluate (in fact, I personally can’t view PSD and EPS files because my computer lacks the software to do so, and tiffs slow down my computer). Also, if you aren’t sure that you are sending me the correct size, than view the file size yourself by way of the extension (such as .jpg; the size of the file is right next to it). If it doesn’t read 1MB or larger (anything smaller will read ‘KB’) than it is likely not large enough. Also, if your original photo is less than 1MB in size, your enlarged, photoshopped version will be blurry and not suitable for use by JCK; please only send us original jpeg files that are a minimum of 1MB or larger in size.
I’m sorry to be so specific, and I realize that every publication has different requirements (all of which can be a pain to comply with!), but these are the criteria that JCK utilizes in order to expedite coverage. Once you’ve submitted your information, it will be considered for use in the most appropriate area, be it online or in one of our print publications.
