Some Help for Customers of Christian Bernard
JCK senior editor Rob Bates has been following the Christian Bernard bankruptcy on his blog, Cutting Remarks. We’ve had some consumers commenting and asking for help in retrieving their personal jewelry that is either in for repair or new purchases that are being sized. While we ourselves can’t help retrieve your property, we can try to provide as much information as possible to help you get your jewelry back.
Cecilia Gardner, executive director and general counsel of the Jewelers’ Vigilance Committee, offers this guidance:
"Consumers have the right to any of their property that they gave to the store for repair. The same holds true for items that were purchased but left at the store for resizing (if the purchase was complete). They won’t be able to insist that the repair or resizing be done, though, if no one is left at Christian Bernard to accomplish those tasks.
We suggest that the affected consumers call the Bankruptcy Trustee directly, and also fax him. It’s important to get his attention as soon as he’s familiar with the case."
